Heading up the Girlfriendz Magazine Sales Team as vice president of sales was a natural transition for Janet Hutchinson, having spent nearly 30 years in sales and marketing. What led Janet to co-founding Girlfriendz Magazine was the ability to combine marketing with the enhancement of the lives of women and children. A graduate of York College in Pennsylvania, she started her career as a marketing rep at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC)—the original designer of today’s desktop PC—she was responsible for all of South Jersey and Delaware. She left upon the birth of her first child, soon coming back to assist the company with their first PC store-opening in Center City Philadelphia. After the birth of her second child, she became a consultant for DEC, serving as account executive to E.I. DuPont. The mom of four children, Janet kept her hand in marketing by working part-time for local newspaper What’s On in Haddonfield, setting the groundwork for developing its sister paper, What’s On in Collingswood. As her children grew, she went back to full-time work as vice president of Hutchinson Business Solutions, and in 1997, formed the Marketing Division of HBS where she serves as president. It was there that she developed a proprietary marketing product for downtowns, non-profits and schools. Among her clients are the townships of Haddonfield, Collingswood and Merchantville, as well as The Barclay Farms Association and Camden Catholic High school. Janet was also involved in the development of Haddonfield's candlelight shopping program, a model that other towns have adopted. Janet’s love of community is almost equal to her love of family, who recently awarded her the honor “Best Mom in the World.” She serves as lector at both Christ the King Roman Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s in Sea Isle. She is a member of several committees for Christ the King, with a special emphasis on women’s issues. She was also the founder of several ongoing church and school-related programs. Her most recent challenge was leading a diocesan—sponsored Project One Team that traveled to New Orleans to assist in rebuilding for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. She is a long time member of the Haddon Fortnightly, whose women's division is a part of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs- the largest volunteer women's organization in the world. The GFWC is dedicated to enriching the lives of women and children. She is also instrumental in the design of a room at The Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia and brings the same creativity and enthusiasm to Girlfriendz Magazine. |
Janet resides in Haddonfield with her husband George and their most successful project: their four children, George Henry, Brenton, Elizabeth and Grant. |
